Colorado Springs Cycling Club |
CSCC has rides for new riders and families as well as rides for expert cyclists. So, whether you prefer fast or relaxed, we have a ride for you. If you want to become a better cyclist, your club membership can be one of the best ways to achieve that.
If you are used to riding by yourself, note that it's different riding with a group. Also, keep in mind that there are a few requirements if you participate in a club ride.
CSCC Group Rides – What to expect
All CSCC rides are posted on our Meetup calendar. Each ride lists the category (green, blue, black etc.), which indicates the average speed (pace) or difficulty of the ride. If you are new to riding with a club, it's a good idea to start with a ride in a category that you think will be easy. If it turns out to be easier than you’d prefer, it's simple enough to choose a more difficult ride the next time. Starting out with a ride that is too long or difficult for your abilities will likely be frustrating to you and the other riders in the group.
Typically, a Ride With GPS link is posted in the ride detail on Meetup. The ride detail typically includes a way to download the route into a Garmin or other GPS device. It is prudent to download the route into your phone or GPS device or print the Ride with GPS cue sheet and bring it with you. (If you print the cue sheet and your GPS device fails you on the ride, you will still have the directions.)
CSCC rides have a leader that the other riders follow. Some CSCC rides are designated as "no-drop" rides and have a sweep who follows the group to make sure that no one is left behind. Riders are expected to ride between the leader and the sweep. "Drop" rides have no sweep and may divide into groups of similar abilities.
