    Hello Cyclist.

I’ll get the big new out of the way first… I am stepping down as Ride Coordinator and author of this weekly email at the end of September. As such, Colorado Springs Cycling is in need of a replacement. I will still be leading the Tuesday Gravel Rides, overseeing the Adopt-A-Trail program and occasionally joining one of other weekly rides as my schedule permits. I will send out a separate email detailing the ride coordinator role but if you are interested, please email president@bikesprings.org.

Election season is just around the corner. The positions of president and secretary are up for reelection. If you would like to nominate someone or self-nominate for these roles, please email president@bikesprings.org. Look for a separate election email in the coming weeks.

    Moving on…

Our next adopt-a-trail clean up is this evening at 6PM. We are out there for no more than an hour and the distance walked is about .8 miles in total. Gloves, reachers (limited quantity) and trash bags are provided. Also, the city has put up a sign with our name on it meaning we’ve officially adopted the South Shooks Run Trail. You can view the sign at the north east corner of East Fountain Blvd and South Corona Street. We’ll get a group photo in front of the sign on this event.

Our next mixer & social is on September 16. We are trying a new venue this time around, One Haven Bakery located off Powers Blvd and Stetson Hills. A limited food and drink (non-alcoholic) menu is available.

Finally, I have included a few, non CSC rides in the tidbits sections. These rides are hosted by the Trails and Open Space Coalition. These are guided rides along the Legacy Loop trail with stops along the way to highlight features of the trail system. The Urban Water Tour is similar but with a focus on our local water ways. Registration is required for these events.

Here are our rides and events for the coming week.

Folks, we need ride leaders. Email Sara Hill at sleonahill@yahoo.com if you would like more information.

Join our private Strava club https://www.strava.com/clubs/colorado-springs-cycling-club It’s a great way to see and encourage your fellow club mates. If your Strava name is different than your actual name, the request to join may be denied. Please email me if that happens and I will get you accepted.

As a reminder, if you are going to attend one of our club rides or events, please sign up on Meet Up. This lets the ride leader or event creator know of your intent to participate and if you are running late, the ride leader may, at their discretion, wait for you and or try to contact you before the ride starts. Also, if the ride is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances at the last minute, the ride leader can reach out to the individual participants to let them know. Finally, if no one has registered for a ride by 8 PM the night before, the ride may likely become a “show and go.”

With the uncertain weather pattern of the season, a ride may become a "show and go” or canceled. The ride leader will update the Meetup event. The group that shows then agrees where to go together. Be prepared with a sign-in sheet. Instructions for where to send the sign-in sheet after the ride are at the bottom of the sign-in sheet.

    Thanks for reading.

    Hello Cyclist.

The rain is good for vegetation but not so great for riding. A few rides have been rained on and some have been canceled due to weather and surface conditions. Even a section of North Cheyenne Canyon road has been damaged by the all this rain causing it to close. Stay safe and dry out there.

Speaking of rain cancelations, the Adopt-A-Trail clean up scheduled this evening has been rescheduled to next Thursday, 12 June.

Our usual rides are on tap for week ahead. Please note, the Tuesday Morning Gravel Ride and the Wednesday Morning Ride are both moving start times to 9:00AM.

This week, we’ll have another social mixer at South Park Brewing. There are two event links below. One is if you want to do a short ride that starts at 5:45. After the ride, enjoy some food and beverage and hang out with fellow club members. The other link is if you just want to come for the food and beverage which starts at 6:30PM but you are more than welcome to come earlier if you wish. If you do come for the ride, it is requested to park along Sheldon Ave.

    Hello Cyclist.

Our usual rides are on tap for week ahead. Please note, the Tuesday Morning Gravel Ride and the Wednesday Morning Ride are both moving start times to 9:00AM.

An email went out earlier this week regarding looking for a 360º camera and creating Google Street View style image of some of our routes. If you have one or know someone who has one and is willing to loan it to the club, please reach out to Gabrielle Halopka at gh287@nau.edu.

    And now for some tidbits:

Join our private Strava club https://www.strava.com/clubs/colorado-springs-cycling-club It’s a great way to see and encourage your fellow club mates

We need ride leaders. Email Sara Hill at sleonahill@yahoo.com if you would like more information.

On Monday, 26 May (Memorial Day), we are invited to join the first annual combined group ride from the Buffalo Lodge with SoCo Velo, the Buffalo Tribe and COS Racing.  There will be three distances/levels for all experience levels.  This is a social ride, no drop with a sweep. Please wear your CSCC team jersey to this event.

Next week, 28 May, we are starting a Wednesday Evening Ride! To give those of you a chance to ride who otherwise work during the day, we will be doing a group ride every Wednesday starting from the Legacy Loop Plaza parking lot. Once a month we will start from South Park Brewing so once the ride is done, stay for some socializing.

Our next Adopt a Trail is next Thursday, 29 May at 8:00 AM. This time we will park along S. El Paso St. between E. Cimarron and E. Costilla (see Meet Up for exact location). We will walk the half mile or so North along S. El Paso St. to Pikes Peak Ave.
